Many people are feeling the affects of the economic downturn. Poor people in developing countries are particularly vulnerable – children orphaned by AIDS, elderly people, people living with disabilities, people living with HIV.
Issah lost his parents and was forced to beg for scraps of food on the street. Can you imagine your child, or a child you care about, being placed in this position?
Issah found refuge at the War on Want NI funded Darul Muslimeen Centre in Tanzania. Here, Issah has a safe place to live, he eats regularly, he receives an education and he is cared for. Issah now has hopes for the future. His ambition is to become a journalist. This is a huge step for a child who previously did not know where his next meal was coming from.
Issah is one of thousands of children whose lives have changed through projects supported by War on Want NI. The Art Aid Auction will help change the lives thousands of vulnerable people like Issah.
War on Want NI is an independent Northern Ireland charity working internationally. Its mission is to alleviate poverty by working in partnership with poor communities in developing countries, and challenging the systems that keep them poor. War on Want NI works in Uganda, Malawi and Tanzania helping hundreds of community organisations find sustainable solutions to poverty.
