The Royal Ulster Academy of Arts (RUA) is an association of over seventy leading visual artists in Northern Ireland. The Academy promotes excellence in the visual arts through its extensive annual exhibition show and through education and advocacy work.

The RUA was established in 1881 and obtained its royal prefix from George VI in 1950. In 1930 the first president elected to the Academy was Sir John Lavery. Other past presidents include some of Northern Irelands most esteemed and successful artists.

The RUA's annual exhibition has become one of the major features of Northern Ireland's arts calendar. The exhibition continues to develop its remit by encouraging younger artists to participate and programming an eclectic mix of traditional and mixed media work.
